Alors que son mandat arrive à échéance mercredi 30 avril et que la Turque Hilal Elver devrait lui succéder d'ici quelques semaines, il affirme que le modèle agro-industriel est dépassé et que la solution aux défis alimentaires actuels ne viendra pas des Etats mais des citoyens.

Deuxième importateur de céréales dans le pourtour méditerranéen et en Afrique, après l'Egypte, l'Algérie n'est pas près de réduire son recours au marché international pour répondre à la demande locale en produits céréaliers. La France demeure le principal fournisseur du marché algérien, particulièrement en blé (tendre et dur). A court terme, tous les indicateurs confirment la persistance de cette tendance si l'on tient compte des récentes statistiques fournies par le centre de l'informatique et des statistiques (CNIS), relevant des Douanes algériennes.
