Multistakeholder meeting on Societal challenges

MED-SPRING organized the multistakeholder meeting "Societal challenges to reinforce the frame of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation on research and innovation" in Brussels last 28th April 2014.

The meeting conveyed stakeholders from EU and Mediterranean Partner Countries to discuss the outcomes of the MedSpring EMEG (Euro-Mediterranean Experts Group) work carried out on the major societal challenges in the Mediterranean region, particularly scarcity of resources (mainly water), high quality affordable food and energy. In particular, the stakeholders were asked to comment and endorse the outcomes (and related Position Paper) of the first EMEG meeting organised in Lisbon on June 2013 on the identification of actions and solutions to create market opportunities and jobs in the above societal challenges and provide orientation for the new upcoming activities of EMEG on strategies and research policies in water, food and energy.

Stakeholders also discussed and proposed most appropriate innovation mechanisms to uptake research results and solutions identified by EMEG in the above societal challenges. For this, stakeholders used the outcomes of the Innovation Group meeting held in the same day (morning meeting).
