The EU promotes R&I through its seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). FP7 launched its last round of calls in 2013, and now the EU is preparing for the launch of its successor, Horizon 2020, the largest collaborative transnational research programme in the world with an expected overall budget of €79 billion from 2014 to 2020. Horizon 2020 offers many opportunities for addressing EuroMed Common Challenges through R&I international cooperation.
The 1st Annual Meeting of the General Assembly will be organised by MHESR (Deputy Co-ordinator) in Cairo, Egypt, from the 9th to 11th February 2014. The Annual Meeting will be the occasion to take stock of project activities and results, planning the future as well as having a constructive exchange with the External Advisory Board.

In the framework of the Mediterranean Science, Policy, Research & Innovation Gateway “MedSpring”, the Ministry of Scientific Research (Egypt), in collaboration with the Agronomic Institute of Bari (CIHEAM-IAMB, Italy) and the Malta Council for Science and Technology will hold the 1st Euro-Mediterranean Brokerage Event on research and innovation on 12-13 February 2014 in Cairo, Egypt.
MED-SPRING project is organizing a regional event called “Horizon 2020: coaching and networking meeting”. This event will be organised back to back to the regional event Horizon 2020 Conference Meeting EuroMed Common Challenges, which is an event organised by the European Commission on 20th January also in Cairo, Egypt.
