Under the coordination of UNIMED and the French Embassy in Italy (Institut Français Italia), a roundtable on the "Neighbourhood Policy and the Mediterranean Youth. The key role of Training and Mobility" will be organized from 30th September to 1st October 2014 in Rome. Further information about this event will be published soon.
Rationale
It is increasingly necessary to ensure that within universities, cultural institutions and political institutions, a strong and concrete debate on the redefinition of European Union policies towards the Mediterranean and at the same time government policies of the Southern Mediterranean countries twards Europe should be promoted. The European Commission, in the face of the events of recent years, has strengthened existing instruments but there is a need for a comprehensive revision of the policies of proximity.
It is also the responsibility of University, both for its skills and ts increasing role of soft diplomacy that has been recognized by most parties, to propose a new way of reinterpreting political, cultural, academic, scientific cooperation in the Mediterranean. Anticipate the events and not chase them. This is the task of the cultural institutions.
This roundtable is therefore to propose a political reflection on a broad-spectrum so that we can make a real and concrete contribution to strengthen the young Mediterranean generation from Tunis to Madrid, from Cairo to Paris, from Gaza to Lisbon, from Rabat to Athens, from Ramallah to Rome from Tel Aviv to Barcelona, that requires us to rethink the social, economic and political model of of all the countries of the Mediterranean , both from North and Sout basin.
The roundtable will offer an informal discussion among specialists and decision makers in Europe and the South Shore of the Mediterranean on the following topics :
- EU Strategy for Neighbourhood Policy and in particular on new tools for mobility (Erasmus + ) in the area of the Mediterranean, on cooperation in the field of Education and on bilateral and regional dimension of European cooperation;
- role of the Union of the Mediterranean;
- role of university cooperation in research and training
